Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Stress Relief Eucalyptus + Mint Body Cream

Bath is a city in the county of Somerset in South West England, known for its Roman-built baths. In 2011, the population was 88,859. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, 97mi west of London and 11mi southeast of Bristol. The city became a World Heritage Site in 1987.

The city became a spa with the Latin name Aquae Sulis (“the waters of Sulis”) c. 60 AD when the Romans built baths and a temple in the valley of the River Avon, although hot springs were known even before then. Bath Abbey was founded in the 7th century. Several other significant buildings were constructed in the medieval period including Bath Guildhall. During the 17th century, claims were made for the curative properties of water from the springs, and Bath became popular as a spa town in the Georgian era. Georgian architecture, crafted from Bath stone, includes the Royal Crescent, Circus, Pump Room and Assembly Rooms where Jane Austen lived and wrote.

Early history

The thermal springs are shown on maps as early as Claudius Ptolemaeus’s 2nd-century Geography as “Aquae Calidae” (literally “the hot waters”), whose whereabouts remain unknown but are thought to be somewhere near Bath. The only contemporary reference is from the Annales des Empereurs du Japon (The Annals of the Emperors of Japan), which records that “in the year 663 Emperor Tenji founded a palace in Akitsu (安津).” A possible translation into modern English would be “Emperor Tenji founded his palace at Aquae Calidae”, though it is likely that this does not reflect an understanding of Latin by Japanese historians at this time, who would have been more familiar with Chinese works such as Chou Han Shu and Wei Zi (魏志).

The word “Bath” () comes from the Old English name for the site, Bæða or Bæðan, latinised as Baiae which was spelt Baioi in Mediaeval Latin documents. This may be how it was written originally; how it was pronounced is not certain as there are no contemporary records and it is not mentioned in William Camden’s 1586 work Britannia nor in John Speed’s 1611 map of Britain. The modern spelling Bath came into use later in the 17th century when people began to think that its original pronunciation might be different from what had become standard by that time; William Lenthall, Speaker of the House of Commons during Cromwell’s Protectorate described its pronunciation as bath without the /t/. In 1894 John Swete wrote:

The word ‘Bath’ is probably derived from Celtic Ba which signifies water or fountain, and affixed to it was probably that of Geth or Gathe, signifying a confluence or conflux of waters; so that we may read it as ‘the meeting or joining of waters,’ and this will apply very well to its situation at the confluence of three rivers…
It seems probable that some form like these – Badiam Abbatis or Badiam Ecclesie – was used by those who applied themselves to study its history; but we know nothing certain on this head until after its conquest by Alfred, when it appears under various forms such as Baðanbyrig and Baðanceaster; while later still we find it written both Bathum and Bathon. By degrees however it assumed more definite shape as Bathum, Bathonium or Bathonia. William Camden describes it thus: “It standeth pleasantly upon rising grounds cast up artificially about yeeres since: hath abundance of faire streets; goodly edifices round about most beautified with stately gardens; water-works for pleasure and use; fountains wondrously wrought; rare monuments and rich prospects.” In 1607 Richard Carew described it alternately as “a city set on hills” or “a sea-like expanse enclosed wholly by land”. John Speed described it engines for quenching fire having caused damage to houses through heat radiation:

There are many fair buildings within this large precinct besides those already mentioned; among which none can be more conspicuous than those four large square towers placed at each corner thereof which appear so eminent above all the rest that they may be discerned many miles off at sea… When any great fire happens here they have great brass kettles likewise suspended over against those towers full of water which they throw forth upon any part thereof that begins to burn…
During excavations carried out between 1963 and 1968 by archaeologists working for Somerset County Council’s Museums Service led by Ralph Merrifield (director), finds revealed evidence suggesting that humans might have settled around hot springs on this site much earlier than had previously been thought possible. These finds included a Mesolithic flint arrowhead found north east of Beau Street which has been dated to 10800 BC[citation needed] making it about 11000 years old if one accepts that Mesolithic flints found elsewhere along with human remains date from 10000 BC onwards (see Creswellian culture): see also Mesolithic Europe#Dates for discussion. It was also discovered during these excavations that prior to construction of the Abbey Church there had been an earlier church on this site built around 600 AD: see also List Early Christian sites in Britain#Roman Britain below – though whether there had been an even earlier religious site is uncertain.[citation needed]

Wildflower Wellness CBD Oil

CBD oil is having a moment. Proponents say that it can help ease anxiety, improve sleep, and decrease inflammation and pain. And Amazon.com is now selling dozens of CBD oil products from different brands.

But what is CBD oil? Does it work? Is it legal? Here’s everything you need to know about CBD oil, including its benefits, uses, and side effects.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is a type of cannabinoid, a chemical found naturally in cannabis (marijuana and hemp) plants. Cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system in humans, and these interactions have been linked to a variety of potential health benefits.

Some people use CBD oil to relieve pain associated with chronic conditions such as arthritis. Others claim that it helps with anxiety, insomnia, and even acne. However, there is limited scientific evidence to support these claims.

CBD oil is available in a variety of forms, and it can be taken orally, inhaled as a vapor, or applied topically. The concentration of CBD varies by product.

Is CBD Oil Legal?

The legal status of CBD oil is complicated. Federal law prohibits the possession and sale of marijuana, but some states have legalized marijuana for medical use. In those states, people with specific medical conditions can legally buy and use CBD oil.

However, the legality of CBD oil is still murky in some states. In December 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Epidiolex, a purified form of CBD oil, for the treatment of two rare types of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. Epidiolex is the first FDA-approved drug that contains a purified form of a substance derived from marijuana. It’s also the only approved treatment for Dravet syndrome.

In June 2018, the FDA approved the use of Epidiolex for the treatment of two rare forms of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. This medication is made from a purified form of CBD oil and is the first FDA-approved drug that contains a substance derived from marijuana. It’s also the only approved treatment for Dravet syndrome. However, other forms of CBD oil are still illegal under federal law.
